What to do

We've got a packed schedule of activities lined up for every day, so you're sure to have a great time at Quinta da Boavista!

There’s plenty to keep you busy all week.

Start your day right way

There’s no rush to get anywhere on Saturday, so start the day with a swimming in the pool. Ten minutes of activity  and then to breakfast! Today we suggest you don’t go far, there is plenty to do around Quinta.

After breakfast

After breakfast we highly recommend a walk through our lovely village towards Bertiandos. You can see how to move in Walk #6. The whole trail from gate to gate takes five hours, so if you don’t want a long way, go ahead to Lagoas Area and take a small or large circular trail (route #7 or #8, which will take no more than two hours) around the reserve, observing the eucalyptus forest and its inhabitants. When you have completed the circle – call us on (+351) 913 90 2020 (call to mobile network) and we will get you back quickly.

On your return

Just a heads-up: if you want a massage or sauna, it’s best to book in advance when you’re back. We’ll heat it up just in time, and you can cool off in the pool. Once you’ve had a chance to rest and relax at Quinta, it’s time to head over to the historic town of Ponte de Lima. You can walk around the streets and have a bite to eat at A Tulha (tel 258 942 879), which serves great steaks.

Our recommendation

It’s time to visit the historic town of Ponte de Lima, walk its

streets and dine at A Tulha, which serves the best steaks in town

Start your day right

After a leisurely breakfast, take a swing in the lower garden. At 12 am, our yoga coach invites you to an outdoor class in the gallery of the main house. After yoga you may start you way to Praia de Cabedelo beach, the journey by car will take about 30 minutes. Once parked at the beach, walk south along the ocean, after 40 minutes you will reach Praia do Rodanho and turn into the forest, 10 minutes along the forest road and you are in Quinta da Brejuinha

What to do next?

If you want to eat in the shade at a table, it is better to book a table at the beginning of the route along the beach (+351 934 606 911), but there is plenty of space.

We recommend the excellent sangria! And the burgers. The menu isn’t very extensive, but it’s high quality. Kids love it here – there’s entertainment and a contact zoo.

The way back

The way back can be slow – on a forest road and on bridges along the dunes, or again on the sand.

Along the way you can watch kite surfers or even take a lesson – there are two surf schools along the way. You can book a lesson by calling +351 258 028 867 (dpc-viana.com)

Our recommendation

For dinner after a day at the beach, it’s better to go somewhere not too fancy – for example, there’s a good Portuguese restaurant nearby called A Cousinha Velha. They eat piglets here, but vegetarians will also find mushrooms or salad.

It’s time to do some travelling

You’ve spent two days on the beach and in the forest, now it’s time to do some travelling in the surrounding area.

We suggest a circular route through Valença (30 minutes by car towards the Spanish border, an old fortress reconstructed by a famous Portuguese architect, you can have a bite to eat but don’t expect a good restaurant) and the provinces of Monção and Melgaço. There is an eco-trail along the Minho River, and if you stop at the Friestas river beach (praia fluvial) along the way, you can even stretch your legs as you walk along. The northern provinces of Portugal are famous for green wine and you should definitely visit Quinta da Soalheiro and Palácio da Brejoeira, both have the best green wine, you can buy and taste it. From the palace, follow the beautiful forest road to Ponte da Barca. Here you can stop for a while to see another nice cosy little village, the road and walk will take no more than two hours.

Our recommendation

The journey home will only take 25 minutes, so you’ll be back in time to play tennis or basketball on our sports court or go for a swim before dinner.

For dinner we offer an option of barbecue on our beautiful patio because restaurants are usually closed on Mondays.

Sightseeing day

Today we offer you a sightseeing day.

It just so happens that the most important cities of the north of Portugal are very close to our estate. Start with Braga. Be sure to visit the Bom Jesus do Monte temple and the old city centre. The centre has the historic café A Brasileira (just very nice, but in the last century politicians used to congregate there) and a few Michelin recommended restaurants, but don’t stay here too long, it’s better to head to Guimarães, Portugal’s historic cradle, a beautiful city centre meticulously restored by another famous Portuguese architect, Fernando Távora (he also renovated our estate). After a stroll around the city, you can have dinner at one of the restaurants.

If travelling close to the city towards Braga, we can recommend Ferrugem (+351) 252 911 700. If in town, Histórico by Papaboa (+351) 915 429 700 or Hool, both traditional.

Our recommendation

In the evening, for those who return not too late, we suggest playing board games in the dining room of our main house, fine wine from the bar or any other drinks will be just right.

Start your day right

We suggest you don’t go anywhere today. We’ve had enough travelling yesterday.

In the morning, perhaps a game of table tennis or big tennis. Then the pool. Then a lap on the electric bike round the village. Better to rent it in the morning so we can charge it up. Then a salad of vegetables from our kitchen garden – you can read about what’s ripe and how to order it on the website or in a tablet on the wall.

Our programme includes workshops for children and adults, you can participate together! For example, today is a traditional Portuguese cake called Pão-de Ló! To bake it, first you need to wrap up in the henhouse, collect the freshest eggs, and then go straight to our kitchen in the House of Jam. Natália will teach you everything there!

The lesson will start at 15.00 and will take only an hour.

To climb up the mountain

After the lesson you will have coffee or tea with fresh cake and homemade jam. After that you will have to climb up the mountain. The way directly from the threshold, route description #2, to the chapel and back will take only 40-50 minutes, but you will spend a little calories.

Our recommendation

In the evening you should go to A Carvalheira (+351 258 742 316) – 15 minutes one way, traditional cuisine, popular restaurant, lots of lawns around for children.

One of the best restaurant in the area, so it’s better to book it in advance.

Time to head back to the ocean beach, our North Litoral

You can’t do without it.

Easy option.

We’ll start the day in Caminha, on the border with Spain. We’re going to Praia de Camarido. If you are with children and not very prone to long journeys, it is enough to drive to the river beach, swim there, walk along the river to the ocean, admire the ocean, slowly wading through the water to Praia de Moledo

In Moledo you can have lunch at Hamilton Pizzaria – reservations required (+351) 926 459 125, other places only offer drinks. Back to Moledo we suggest walking not on the sand, but on a sandy path under a canopy of pine trees. It is not hot and very beautiful. It takes about 40 minutes one way.

Option for those who like to walk longer.

Arriving at Praia de Carreço, park and start walking north along the ocean. The walkway is part of the St James Way (Portuguese coastal path). Heading north, you’ll pass the beautiful beaches of ArdaAfife and reach the village of Vila Praia d’Âncora, have a fish or seafood lunch at Fortaleza Restaurant (+351) 258 915 276 and then either walk back the same way or walk as far as possible and return to your car by taxi from Moledo. However you spend your day, the best place to end it is Viana do Castelo. Park in the free car park outside the Gil Eannes Ship Museum, first explore the quiet streets of the town before returning to the car and walk along the river to its mouth, where a surprise awaits you: the DASAU Café Lounge with great food, excellent service and great views of kitesurfers and the water.

If you have never been to Porto, today is the day to do it.

You can’t leave without visiting the most romantic city in the world! Here’s the itinerary:

50 minutes by car to Parque de Serralves. An hour and a half to explore the park and museums, then drive to the city centre and park in the underground car park at Torre dos Clerigos. The walk from Livraria Lello to Ribeira takes one and a half to two hours, if you visit all the shops.

Cross the Luis I Bridge. Visit all the cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and taste the different varieties of Port and Pastéis de Bacalhau. WOW museums and restaurants all in one place – a perfect end to the walk.

Route #9 to the Quinta da Ameal winery

If you’ve been to Porto before and don’t want to go there again, we suggest a walking route #9 to the Quinta da Ameal winery. We’ll drop you off at your starting point at the bridge over the Lima River, and an eco-trail called the Orange Trail will take you along the river first to the Cais da Garrida river beach (be sure to swim!) and then continue on to the winery. It’s best to book your tour in advance, at the end of the tour our shuttle will bring you back. The non-stop journey will take three hours, with stops it is more comfortable.
